So yesterday I finally got around to filling out the appropriate paperwork to get our local school district to allow Nov to finish out the year in her old school. Thankfully they didn't ask WHEN we moved, cuz I wasn't looking forward to telling them we'd moved before Thanksgiving!
At any rate, as we were leaving the school Nov is zoned for with the paperwork in hand, she asks me where she will be going to school next year. I tell her that Who's Bond-o and I are still considering our options. I elaborate to tell her that I doubt the new school district will allow her to go to the old school district next year. (translation: new school district doesn't want to lose the money the state pays per pupil to the old school district. We are in a budget crunch after all.) I explain that daddy and I are trying to decide whether to send her to school in my district (which I can do because I work there) or try to get her into a school in our home district where she already knows people.
She processes this and says, "but I wish I could go to both. I really like both of them."
I tell her that sometimes in life when you are having trouble deciding between two things that you want, it helps to think about the reasons you want each one and decide which reasons are better. She thinks and then begins to think out loud.
"Well, I want to go to (local school) because my friends are there. And I have two reasons for wanting to go to (mom's school district). The first one is because you work there and that would be neat. The second is because they have see-saws."
Huh?
Yes, folks, you read that right. See-saws. You see, Nov recently had a staff development day at her school, and rather than paying for her to go spend the whole day at her after school program, she came to school with me. I didn't have a class during recess time, so we went out to play. She spent almost her entire time on the see-saws. And she loved them so much, that apparently it was making it difficult to decide which school to go to.
:) Priorities!!!
